Quality Control in Polymer Sourcing — What to Look For

When sourcing pharmaceutical-grade polymers, rigorous quality control is non-negotiable. Here are the key parameters we verify for every batch.

1. Viscosity & Molecular Weight

The K-value of PVP directly determines its performance. Always request the certificate of analysis (CoA) showing exact K-value, viscosity, and residual monomer content.

2. Purity Profile

  • Heavy metals: ≤ 10 ppm for pharmaceutical grades
  • Residual NVP monomer: ≤ 0.1% (pharma), ≤ 0.5% (cosmetic)
  • Moisture content: ≤ 5.0%

3. Microbial Limits

  • TAMC: ≤ 100 CFU/g
  • TYMC: ≤ 10 CFU/g
  • Absence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus

4. Documentation

Always request: CoA, MSDS, TDS, and where applicable, DMF (Drug Master File) for regulatory submissions.
